About

The Author

My name is Oliver Goosen. I am 20 years old. Over the past ten years I have developed and cultivated a borderline unhealthy obsession with the Tour de France. For the most part of the year I involve myself in various athletic pursuits, but when the Tour rolls around I become a couch potato (hence the borderline unhealthy description of my obsession). I've been studying the tour under the wings of the great commentator (and unwitting tutor), Phil Liggett. I've become a sponge for Liggett-isms and have tried to absorb as much of his knowledge as possible. The Tour de France is my sporting highlight of the year.

The Blog

I decided to write this blog to marry two of my favourite things: writing and the Tour de France. I made the decision to write this blog after a few years of talking myself out of it. I've had the idea of writing my perspectives on the Tour since 2010, but never put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) for a multitude of reasons (most of which were poor excuses on my part). A little bit of alignment of events in my life meant that I was in dire need of something to throw myself wholeheartedly into, in need of a distraction. Simply watching the Tour wouldn't be enough. I needed something more. I needed to extend the Tour beyond the mere hours of the race. And so this blog was born.
